My Griffin Elevator was a causality of moving across the country

I'd have to say my move from California to Massachusetts was rather smooth and relatively inexpensive. The flight from Sacramento to Boston was around $200 and since I flew Southwest, I was able to bring lots of luggage for free. I managed to get rid of a lot of my old clothes and donate things I could easily replace in Massachusetts. This left me with several boxes I decided to ship via USPS for just under another $200. As with any move, there is always some kind of casualty. Mine was a large priority box that got destroyed in transit across our beautiful country. The box was ripped open along one of the sides and several (metallic) objects were bent.

My beloved Griffin Elevator of two years was amongst those items in the terrorized box. Among first inspection, I believe it to have survived except for some scuffs and scratches. However, now that I am settling in at my new desk, I finally set it up and realize one bar is bent out of shape. Hence, my laptop will not lay level on the Elevator anymore. I know as far as moving casualties go, this is not the biggest deal. I am just sad to see good products like this get ruined. Maybe I should have spent the few extra dollars to ensure safer delivery, especially since other items were ruined from transit.

P.S. I have tried bending it back into shape, but I think I need a stronger person to help me in that regards. Sent from my iPhone

New Whiteboard!

Woohoo! I got this awesome whiteboard for free today. There was an office on campus getting rid of a bunch of stuff so I rallied some friends to help me move it. I had a whiteboard like this in Berkeley but was unable to move it across the country. It is now replaced with this upgraded version!

P.S. Thanks Monica for letting us know about the free stuff. Thanks Leslie and Andy for helping me move the stuff.

New Sleek Wallet

I just got my awesome new slim wallet made of carbon fiber from RAGGEDedge Gear. They actually call it a card sleeve ID because it just holds your cards and has a special slot of your ID. I hate bulky wallets and just wanted something sleek and sturdy that was going to last awhile to hold the main items I carry around with me. Since it is made of carbon fiber, it is actually stronger than steel but ridiculously light. The company is just a couple of family members working together to make these amazing products using carbon fiber, kevlar, and pentex sailcloth. They have a ton of products ranging from wallets to bags and iPad bags to yoga mats! Not only did I get this awesome wallet, but I'm also supporting a small American-owned business.

MIT EVT: Isle of Man TT Zero

Today I went to a presentation on the MIT Electric Vehicle Team'eSuperbike that competed at the Isle of Man TT Zero.  Basically, a group of MIT students designed an electric motorcycle using a BMW S1000RR chassis and a lot of batteries to race in this international electric bike competition. They were the only pure student group in the competition and placed 4th overall. Not bad for their first year!

Happy racing,
